Ideas Have Consequences

Development or Destruction?
Africa is need of transformation. Ideas that we hear, believe, and share with others have consequences. They could be good consequences, but often they are bad consequences.

Truth will set us free - development.
Lies will enslave us - destruction.

The Bible reveals a fundamental principle:
“For as [a man] thinketh in his heart, so is he” (Pr. 23:7 KJV).

This principle applies to individuals as well as entire cultures. The key to cultural transformation, therefore, lies in the transformation of the mindset or worldview of a people.

The late evangelist and apologist, Francis Schaeffer, said:
“I believe people are as they think. The choices we make...will mold irrevocably the direction of our culture ... and the lives of our children.”

There is a relationship between the spiritual and physical realms and culture. The spiritual realm impacts the physical realm at the level of culture. Or to put it differently, we build societies like the God or god(s) that we worship (Ps. 115:4-8).

Dr. Tokunboh Adeyemo
Founder and Executive Director of the Center of Biblical Transformation:
“Africa has been evangelized but the African mind has not been captured for Christ.”

Dr. Charles Malik
Former President of the Security Council and the General Assembly of the UN:
“The problem is not only to win souls but to save minds. If you win the whole world and loose the mind of the world you will soon discover you have not won the world. Indeed, it may turn out that you have lost the world.”

Worldview

  • The belief system conveyed in the tribal story
  • The mindset of a people
  • Mental infrastructure
  • It is like:

o   A set of glasses for the mind
o   The software of the a computer

The poverty in Africa is not a material problem; it is a problem of worldview!
